UW Medical Students Elected to Gold Humanism Honor Society

University of Washington's chapter of the Gold Humanism Honor Society (GHHS) elected its 2017-2018 members including many who participated in the Department of Global Health programs for medical students. GHHS is one of the two national honor medical societies; it recognizes students, residents, and faculty who are exemplars of compassionate patient care. GHHS members are peer nominated and the chapter can elect up to 15% of the class in total.

Department Welcomes New Director of Finance and Administration

The Department of Global Health (DGH) is delighted to welcome our new Director of Finance and Administration, Dana Panteleeff.  Dana has a long and deep connection to UW and DGH.  She joins us most recently from Bloodworks NW (Puget Sound Blood Center's current name) where she was Chief Operating Officer of their Research Institute.  In that role, she was responsible for overall management of the organization, including driving the development and execution of the Institute's long- and short-range strategies, establishing and managing the Institute's annual budget, and general "keeping the

King K. Holmes Endowed Professorship in STD and AIDS

Named after King Holmes, PhD, MD, Professor of Medicine and Global Health, and founding chair of the Department of Global Health, the King K. Holmes Endowed Professorship in STD and AIDS is a rotating award designed to recognize and support a faculty member with exceptional capability and promise, and a clear commitment to STD/HIV research and training. Starting next year, the professorship will be awarded for a period of three years, renewable once.

Global WACh Announces New Scientific Priorities

The Global Center for Woman, Adolescent, and Child health completed its fifth year in June 2016. A Center within the Department of Global Health, it was established to pursue scientific discovery and leadership development by breaking down traditional silos that separate disciplines. Their approach to research was framed from a lifecycle perspective -- one that views women, children and adolescents as interconnected populations that move along a shared life course.

World TB Day, celebrated each year on March 24th, is an opportunity to raise awareness about the global burden of tuberculosis (TB).  The 2017 World TB Day theme is “Unite to End TB,” and some faculty from the University of Washington (UW) embodied the work by creating a new partnership in Bangladesh.
