UW Department of Global Health Faculty Awarded Population Health Initiative 2021 Pilot Research Grant

An interdisciplinary team including UW Department of Global Health faculty Jeremy Hess and Kris Ebi was selected for a pilot research grant award from the University of Washington Population Health Initiative. The award will support the formation of a climate action Collaboratory in Washington State.

DGH Faculty Receive Grants from Population Health Initiative

With its Population Health Initiative, the University of Washington annually distributes research grant funding for one-of-a-kind projects that address unique health challenges here in Washington and around the world. This year, three of the awarded research teams include faculty members from the Department of Global Health: Peter Rabinowitz, Charles Mock, James Pfeiffer, Rachel Chapman, and Steve Gloyd.

A Foundation for 'Safe Motherhood' Created With and For the Somali Community

On a recent Saturday evening, a dozen women gathered around a table at a community room in the White Center neighborhood of Seattle, settling in with snacks and conversation.

The evening’s program would be more education than entertainment, an opportunity to discuss topics so sensitive that, without the group of women assembled that night, might not be discussed at all.

UW Names Population Health Building After Hans Rosling

Today we have the great pleasure of sharing the news that UW has named our future home, the Population Health Initiative building, after the Swedish physician and 'very serious possibilist' Hans Rosling.

Next year, the Hans Rosling Center for Population Health will become home to the Department of Global Health (DGH), the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation, the School of Public Health, and the UW's Population Health Initiative.

Ali Mokdad Named Chief Strategy Officer for Population Health Initiative

Ali Mokdad has been named the chief strategy officer for Population Health at the University of Washington, President Ana Mari Cauce announced today. In this new role he will be responsible for collaboratively setting and executing the UW’s vision and strategy for the Population Health Initiative, a 25-year effort to create a world where all people can live healthier and more fulfilling lives.
