Health metrics and evaluation helps identify the best strategies to build a healthier world. By measuring health, tracking program performance, and finding ways to maximize health system impact, the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME), one of our key partners, provides a foundation for informed decision-making that ultimately will lead to better health for people worldwide. IHME provides rigorous and comparable measurement of the world’s most important health problems and evaluates the strategies used to address them. Led by Christopher J.L. Murray, MD, DPhil.

The Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study (GBD) is the largest and most comprehensive effort to date to measure epidemiological levels and trends worldwide. With thousands of GBD collaborators from around the world participating in the most recent update, we are always working to expand the collaborative network. Published in October 2020, GBD 2019 provides for the first time an independent estimation of population, for each of 204 countries and territories and the globe, using a standardized, replicable approach, as well as a comprehensive update on fertility and migration. GBD 2019 incorporates major data additions and improvements, and methodological refinements.
