DGH Highlights from CUGH 2024

From March 7 – 10, 2024, UW Department of Global Health attended the 2024 Consortium of Universities for Global Health (CUGH) conference in Los Angeles, CA. 

The weekend included faculty and graduate students sharing their research in seven posters presentations on research topics ranging from academic journal publishing to healthcare management in Lesotho to early hearing detection and intervention in Kenya.

UW Implementation Science PhD Student Coco Alarcon Wins Best Student Poster Competition at CUGH for Community-Based One Health Project

Coco Alarcon, a University of Washington PhD student in Implementation Science, has won The Lancet Global Health-CUGH Best Student Poster Competition at the annual Consortium of Universities for Global Health (CUGH) conference, held virtually from March 12-14.

Help, Don’t Eat: King Holmes Awarded the Distinguished Leadership in Global Health Award at CUGH 2019

Years ago, global health expert King Holmes was called in to help connect the disparate divisions of a large, unnamed organization. On his first day, he went to talk with a division leader and saw the following on an office white board:

Eat them or be eaten.

He thought a moment. Then he picked up an eraser and cleaned the board. In place of the carnivorous phrase, he wrote: 

Help them and grow stronger together.
