DGH Faculty and Fellows Receive 2020 New Investigator Awards

The UW/Fred Hutch Center for AIDS Research is delighted to announce the 2020 New Investigator Award recipients.  The purpose of this award program is to encourage junior investigators (at a senior stage of training or recently independent) to conduct independent research, acquire preliminary data to use for exogenous grant submissions, publish, receive mentorship, and write one or more grants to obtain funding to continue their HIV/AIDS research careers.

DGH Researchers Receive CFAR International Infrastructure Awards

The University of Washington/Fred Hutch Center for AIDS Research (CFAR) recently announced the recipients of their International Infrastructure Awards. Geoffrey Gottlieb (Adjunct Professor of Global Health), John Kinuthia (Affiliate Associate Professor), Rose Bosire (Clinical Research Scientist/Global Health Fellow), and Sylvia LaCourse (Assistant Professor) each received awards.

CFAR Receives $1.2 Million for HIV Research Projects in the US

As part of the Ending the HIV Epidemic (EHE): A Plan for America initiative, the University of Washington/Fred Hutch Center for AIDS Research (CFAR) received $1.2 million to fund five research projects. This initiative allocates funding to HIV research with the goal of reducing new infections in the United States by 90 percent by 2030.

CFAR Announces Recipients of New Investigator Awards

The University of Washington/Fred Hutch Center for AIDS Research (CFAR) present the New Investigator Awards each year. These awards fund and support HIV and AIDS research by new, promising investigators early in their careers. The 2019 awards will allow Department of Global Health researchers, Kristin-Beima Sofie, Katrina Ortblad, and Arianna Means to study ways to empower caregivers of adolescents living with HIV, PrEP delivery by community pharmacies, and nutritional services for HIV-exposed children in Kenya. 

2018 CFAR International Pilot Awards

The UW/Fred Hutch Center for AIDS Research (CFAR) is delighted to announce this year's International Pilot Awards. The International Pilot Awards are for development and implementation of innovative and collaborative HIV-related research projects in developing countries by junior faculty. Awardees are funded up to $15,000 over one year.

Shaping the future of research and action on STDs and HIV around the globe

Students from around the globe met in Seattle this month to learn cutting-edge research strategies and techniques in the fields of STDs and HIV. 81 students from 14 countries participated in the 26th Annual Principles of STD/HIV Research Course, conducted by UW’s Department of Global Health and Center for AIDS Research. The curriculum focuses on critical research areas in STD/HIV and the fundamentals of different disciplines involved in STD/HIV research.

2018 CFAR New Investigator Awards

The University of Washington/Fred Hutch Center for AIDS Research (CFAR) has announced funding for seven New Investigator Award proposals this year. These proposals represent multiple CFAR institutions - including UW, Fred Hutch, Seattle Children's, and the University of Hawai’i - as well as a variety of types of science: clinical and epidemiologic investigation, basic laboratory discovery, and quantitative research. UW Students, Faculty Break Barriers and Build Bridges at the AIDS 2018 Conference

More than 30 UW researchers participated in the 22nd International AIDS Conference (AIDS 2018) — the world’s largest global gathering on HIV and AIDS — to share ground-breaking science aimed at helping to address the most pressing challenges in HIV/AIDS. The conference offered an important opportunity to strengthen policies and programs around the world that ensure an evidence-based response to the epidemic.
