Dr. Carey Farquhar Receives Global Innovation Fund Award

Dr. Carey Farquhar, professor of medicine (Allergy and Infectious Diseases) and global health, has received a Global Innovation Fund Award from the UW Office of Global Affairs. The UW Global Innovation Fund seeds initiatives and programs, developing cross-college and cross-continent collaborations that enhance the University of Washington’s global reach.

Dr. Carey Farquhar To Serve as Department of Global Health Interim Chair

The University of Washington School of Medicine (SoM) and UW School of Public Health (SPH) are pleased to announce that Dr. Carey Farquhar, MD, MPH has agreed to serve as Interim Chair of the Department of Global Health (DGH) until a permanent chair is found. “We are confident that Carey will continue to provide outstanding leadership for the department” said Dean of Public Health Hilary Godwin and Dean of Medicine Paul Ramsey.

By 8:30 most mornings, Carey Farquhar has already exercised, dropped her kids at school and taken part in at least two calls with colleagues in Kenya. A ground-breaking HIV researcher and long-time mentor, she hopes to develop a more diverse student body as well as launch more fieldwork opportunities for students in Asia. She was recently named associate chair for academic programs in the Department of Global Health.
