Public health students partner with communities locally and abroad to support Ukrainians displaced by war

When Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022, Olena Bidovanets was pursuing her Master’s of Public Health (MPH) degree at the University of Washington School of Public Health (UW SPH). An infectious disease and psychotherapy medical doctor, Bidovanets wanted to study public mental health. After receiving a 2021-23 Fulbright award, she moved from her home in Ukraine to Seattle.

Fulbright Program Brings Six Students to Department of Global Health

This year, the Department of Global Health welcomed six Fulbright scholars from Tunisia, Malawi, Indonesia, Vietnam, and Colombia. The Fulbright program provides prestigious grants that cover an academic year of living, studying, and engaging with the community at U.S. universities. Applying students submit a statement of defined activities they will pursue during their time in America, with graduate students having to demonstrate a capacity for independent study or research.

UW Named a 'Top Producer' of Fulbright Scholars, Students

The University of Washington is among the top producers of Fulbright scholars and students for 2016-17, according to lists released Sunday by The Chronicle of Higher Education.

The Fulbright Program, operated by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, is the government’s flagship international educational exchange program.
