Events in the past academic year have demonstrated just how important it is to commit actively to social justice and anti-racism, given clear evidence of systemic racism, police brutality and injustice in our society and the disproportionate impact of COVID-19 on Black people and other people of color. We recognize the experiences of students, colleagues and friends in our community who have been excluded, disregarded, undermined, denigrated, and falsely accused because of racism, police brutality and white supremacy.

SPH: UW Students Have Hard Conversations about Race & Disparity in London

Students share their experiences in a study abroad program examining health disparities in Great Britain in this School of Public Health news article. The program name, Dark Empire, refers to the shadow that existed after the fall of the British Empire and the health disparities seen today as a result of British imperialism. This is the program's 9th year and it is led by Adjunct Professor Clarence Spigner.

UW Ranks among Top Programs for Global Equity and Biomedical Research

University of Washington ranked third among 59 universities in a student-led report highlighting how university research benefits low-resource settings

The University of Washington ranked third out of 59 universities in its approach to global equity and biomedical research, earning a B+ “grade.” This University Report Card ranking was published in late April by Universities Allied for Essential Medicines (UAEM), a student-led group focused on access to medicine and health-related technologies.
