Kenneth Mugwanya’s first question — how to prevent people from getting infected with HIV — led him to leave his first job and join the infectious Diseases Institute at Makerere University in Uganda as a research study physician, where he began working with UW researchers who were also asking this question.

Faculty Receives $3 Million to Test One-Stop Locale for Women's Reproductive Health, HIV Prevention

Kenneth Mugwanya, an assistant professor of global health at the University of Washington School of Public Health, and his research team have received a five-year, $3 million grant from the National Institutes of Health to test the effectiveness of integrating methods of HIV prevention into sexual and reproductive health services for women in Kenya.

UW HIV Prevention Research Highlighted at International Conference

UW Department of Global Health researchers presented new HIV prevention findings at the HIV Research for Prevention (HIVR4P 2018) conference in Madrid. HIVR4P is the only global scientific conference focused exclusively on the challenging and fast-growing field of biomedical HIV prevention research.  The conference supports global cross-fertilization among research on HIV vaccines, microbicides, PrEP, treatment as prevention, and other biomedical prevention approaches.
