Q: Please tell us about yourself. Where did you live before Seattle and what were you doing?

A: I am a concurrent MD/MPH student at the University of Washington. I grew up in China and immigrated to the Bay Area in California. I studied Biology and Music at UC Berkeley, where I developed an interest in global health and health disparities. Before starting medical school, I worked on dengue virus transmission factors in the South Pacific and collaborated with a provincial public health department to improve schistosomiasis surveillance in China. I have been studying clinical medicine at the UW School of Medicine since 2015 and have trained in urban and rural settings in Washington, Montana, and Alaska.

Q: What are you looking forward to in the MPH program?

A: With the support of the HIV Medicine Association, I have been examining attitudes towards novel HIV prevention strategies among female sex workers in India. During the MPH program, I am looking forward to improving my analytical skills in order to fully integrate my interests in biomedical research, clinical medicine, and public health.
