Economic Conference in Seattle Features Global Health

The future of the region's global health sector took center stage at the 39th annual enterpriseSeattle economic forecast Jan. 13. The Washington Global Health Alliance (WGHA) was asked by enterpriseSeattle to partner on the sold-out event (more than 500 attendees, including Gov. Christine Gregoire). Many global health organizations, including the Department of Global Health, were featured in the "global health innovation room," allowing groups to introduce their work to a broader business community.

Dr. Zied Mhirsi, who received his MPH from UW, is living in Tunisia and was quoted in a New York Times story on the recent violence. He also recorded a YouTube video to "tell some friends about the sequence of events that took place during the last month, leading to the first democratic revolution in the Arab world."

UW Global Emergency Management Plan

UW announced a series of new UW policies governing international travel, which became effective Jan. 1. They include an emergency number, requirements for mandatory insurance, and a travel registry. Additional information is available at the travel emergency webpage of the Office of Global Affairs

Global Health Week Big Success

 Thanks to everyone who participated in Global Health Week Feb. 28-March 4. We promoted more than 20 events in five days (22 for those who are counting). E-Learning Success

Each winter quarter, the University of Washington's Department of Global Health and Treatment Research and Expert Education (TREE) offers the graduate-level course GH573: Clinical Management of HIV to groups of practicing clinicians in resource-limited settings. The 2011 course, which concluded on March 31, was offered at 33 sites in 22 countries in North America, Latin America, the Caribbean, Africa, and Asia.
