Each year the Department of Global Health invites organizations to campus for our annual career fair to talk with our students about working in global and local health during Global Health Career Week. This year we are doing something a bit different and have invited a number of our regular fair participants to each host an hour long ZOOM session where they might present information on their organization, their work, the culture of hiring, job or internship opportunities that might arise, and how students might best prepare for these session.
These sessions will take place from May 4-8, with information about each event listed below.
Virtual Career Fair for Local-Global Health

Each hour of our virtual career fair will feature a different organization and provide students with the opportunity to ask questions. We encourage students to network with as many organizations as they can and get to know more about the work that our partners do and make connections via these interactive sessions. Organization representatives include ITECH, Health Alliance International, Seattle King County Public Health, Fred Hutch, PATH and more! Amazon will also be giving a presentation titled How to Stand Out in Virtual Job Applications.

Many students graduate from the University of Washington with a goal of working in global health, but they are unsure how best to pursue that path. It can be intimidating and confusing to know how to get involved in and support oneself in the field. To help you consider how best to strategize and achieve your goals in global health, we have invited several recent UW graduates who have secured opportunities in the field of global health, either through employment or graduate school, to share their advice. These are students who were recently in your shoes and know the opportunities, anxieties, and concerns you face. We hope this panel will feel relatable and offer concrete guidance on how to think strategically about your immediate next steps.

Public Health Career and Job Search Strategies during Uncertain Times

To address questions about the COVID-19 pandemic and different roles to help protect public health and vulnerable populations, we will hold a live Zoom event to offer students and alumni the opportunity to ask DGH experts their questions. The panelists each have differing roles, including conducting clinical trials on prevention drugs, implementing CDC guidelines to prevent outbreaks in senior communities, and understanding the pandemic and its effects on Seattle’s homeless population.
