It's well-known that Seattle is home to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, PATH, the Infectious Disease Research Institute and others.

But a new report from the Washington Global Health Alliance shows just how massive Washington state's impact on the global health sector really is.

The Washington State Global Health Landscape Study, released Friday by the alliance, found that the state's 168 global health organizations — comprised of nonprofits, biotechs, research institutions and more — had a $5.8 billion economic impact in Washington state in 2013.

What's more, the field is growing. Between 2009 and 2013, the global health industry here added 2,000 jobs.

Global health organizations from the Evergreen state currently work on 5,100 projects in 151 countries around the world.
