Global Health Minor students competed in ‘Global Health Jeopardy’ Wednesday night with host Charles Mock, MD, MPH, Director of the Global Health Minor Program. The three teams – Stop Smoking, Mugs, and Hot Air Balloons – had a great back and forth. But only the Mugs (they wanted to win Department mugs), got the final Jeopardy question correct: “This accounts for the most deaths of any communicable disease?” Answer: “What is lower respiratory infections?” Fifteen students took part in the game with questions among five categories: Seattle; Non-Communicable Diseases; Pop Culture; Maternal Child Health; and UW. Other questions included, “This is often mentioned as one of the most important aspects of improving health outcomes?” Answer: “What is education?”
The UW approved a Global Health Minor in January 2011, enabling undergraduates to be part of a new field of study igniting their imagination. There are currently 152 undergraduates enrolled in the Global Health Minor, with hundreds more taking global health classes.
