Biography 

Dr Wubshet Mamo (DVM, MVSc, PhD), is Associate Professor of Medical Microbiology (UU, Sweden), Clinical Associate Professor (Faculty) –at UW-GHD, long experience working with UW-GHD-I-TECH, as Clinical laboratory program Director in Ethiopia, as Global Health Consultant for UW-I-TECH, MSH/USAID supporting in establishing Regulatory Science Master’s program in Ethiopia, for ASM, CDC, GHSA, EPHI (PEPFAR) establishing national AMR surveillance strategic plan in Ethiopia.

Dr Mamo is a Senior Regional Global Public Health Consultant at United States Pharmacopeia (USP) supporting in public health system strengthening, establishing LQMS, national AMR surveillance system in some South Asian countries. Dr Mamo until recently, has been is Program Manager at ASLM (African Society for Laboratory Medicine) managing public health system strengthening programs/projects such as, clinical quality improvement, improving quality management system (QMS) of clinical laboratories towards ISO 15189 and accreditation, HIV testing, treatment and care, Viral load roll outs and HIV drug resistant testing quality improvement, including professional skill building, leadership and management in Africa, (Botswana, Tanzania), Caribbean countries (Jamaica, Trinidad & Tobago, Suriname, Guyana, Bahamas, Barbados, St. Lucia, St. Vincent, St. Kitts, Antigua, Dominica, Grenada) and Papua New Guinea.

Dr Mamo has long experiences working within HIV/AIDS diagnosis, care and treatment programs, TB prevention and control, MNCH /PMTCT and pediatric HIV program.  Dr Mamo has a broad experience in biomedical and preclinical research, Associate Professor of Medical Microbiology (University of Uppsala, Sweden) contributed to over 40 research publications/book chapters. He has over 14 years of experience in human drug discovery research, Principal Scientist, PI for GI, CNS diseases research at a global bio-pharmaceutical (AstraZeneca , Sweden); contributed to the early discovery of some human drugs, substantial experience in transgenesis, recombinant DNA technology, have strong interest in gene/cell therapy- Stem Cells therapy.

Dr Mamo is an experienced veterinary surgeon (DVM), animal health/medicine with major interest in emerging/re-emerging infections, zoonosis, and “One Health” to integrate human health, animal health and ecosystem.
