Biography 

Dr. Newman is an epidemiologist and Deputy Director for the Office of Communicable Disease Epidemiology at the Washington State Department of Health. She is the Principal Investigator for the Washington Emerging Infections Program and RESP-NET, a national surveillance system that monitors laboratory-confirmed hospitalizations associated with influenza, COVID-19, and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) among children and adults. She is dedicated to building leadership capacity in students and career public health practitioners through teaching and mentorship.
