Biography 

Dr. Angela G. Spencer is a Research Scientist with the Global Cardiovascular Health Program at the University of Washington Department of Global Health, School of Medicine. She is a citizen of the Cherokee Nation and the United States. Dr. Spencer uses multiple methods to implement and scale up evidence-based practices in community and healthcare settings. Over the past decade, she co-designed and collaborated on community-based research to control infectious disease in rural Northern Peru. She joined UW in 2023 as a postdoctoral fellow with the American Heart Association-funded Global to Rural Innovation Network to Adapt Evidence- Based Cardiovascular Interventions to Context (GROW-Rural) project, applying human-centered design and community-based participatory methods to adapt cardiovascular care innovations from rural regions of other countries for healthcare settings in the rural western United States. 

Dr. Spencer now serves as a Research Scientist with GROW-Rural and Principal Investigator for the Advancing Community Outreach, Research, and Native Solutions (ACORNS) for Healthy Hearts project. Her research interests include how the structure of health systems and community networks influence peoples’ health, and how to design or adapt evidence-based health care practices for American Indian, Alaska Native, and rural populations.
