Biography 

Dr. Colven is the John E. Olerud Professor of Dermatology Training and Director of the UW Dermatology Residency.

Besides medical education, Dr. Colven’s interests include HIV-related skin disorders, systemic disease dermatology, and telemedicine. In 2004-06, as a Fulbright Lecturer, he worked in Cape Town, South Africa, initiating a teledermatology network to reach underserved regions of that country. Following that work, Dr. Colven has continued similar store and forward teledermatology consultation for safety net clinics in Washington State and with the Washington State Department of Corrections.

In the past four years, Dr. Colven has traveled twice to Hunan Province, People's Republic of China, to assist with establishing standards of dermatology residency training there.
